Christmas and Candlelight at Historic Washington

Warm temperatures may have kept it from seeming like the Christmas season, but the decorations and music definitely put visitors in the holiday spirit for the first evening of Christmas and Candlelight Saturday at Historic Washington State Park. Dozens of people enjoyed the luminaries lining the streets and walkways and music being performed in the churches, gym and restaurant.

Local performers included Steve Lance, members of Rafter J Cowboy Church, Mark and Shelly Keith, the Hempstead County Melody Boys, the Hope High Jazz Cats, the Joy Trio and Jerome Underwood and Friends.

Members of the Old Washington Farmers’ Market presented their third annual Christmas Bazaar inside the Washington Volunteer Fire Department.

In cased you missed it, you’ve got another chance this Saturday. The park will again be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Evening programming and tours begin at 1:00 p.m., lighting of the luminaries will happen at dark, and music from groups and choirs throughout the region will begin at 5:00 p.m.

The famous William’s Tavern Restaurant Christmas Buffet will be served for both lunch and dinner so you don’t have to miss out on that tasty tradition no matter what time you arrive for the event.

Whether you choose to stroll the boardwalk streets or take a ride on the horse-drawn surrey, you don’t want to miss bringing in the Christmas Season the old fashion way with Historic Washington State Park. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children (6 -12) plus tax from South Arkansas Regional Archives by calling 870-983- 2633.
