Copeland new 4H director

PRESCOTT – Tori Copeland was welcomed as the new 4-H director for the Nevada County Extension Service.

She also assumes duties as the home economist with her job. Copeland comes to Prescott from Little Rock, where she graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a Bachelor of Science in Health-Human Performance and Sports Management. She originally hales from Paragould.

Copeland was working with the state 4-H office when she learned about the opening in Prescott. She talked to her former boss about getting out of the office and doing 4-H work, applied for the Prescott job, interviewed and was accepted. “I enjoy working with 4-H,” she said.”

Copeland admitted the home economics side of the job isn’t her strong suit, but said she’s willing to learn and do what it takes to be successful.

“I want to get 4-H started and get children involved.” She plans on working within the Prescott and Nevada school districts to get children to join 4-H, as well as the family and consumer science aspect.

Her parents are in Paragould, where her mother owns a retail children’s boutique and her father works with the Parker Co. Her two sisters live in Little Rock. The younger sister is at UALR studying sign language as she wants to do interpreting work with the deaf. The older sister is working with the state office of family and consumer science.

Copeland has already moved to Prescott, as she began work on Dec. 1. She has a four-year-old cat, Flash, who “rules the roost” as she said.

“I’ve visited both schools and want to bring new things to the community and give the students different opportunities. I’d like to make this a more well-rounded place by bringing in different programs.”
