HOPE – Learning more about themselves and each other, faculty and students at Yerger Middle School participated in a recent SWOT assessment.

SWOT represents the “Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats” perceived by the participants, according to Jerry Vaughn of the Arkansas Leadership Academy, who conducted the assessment.

Ten students and ten teachers were chosen to participate in the exercise to identify the initial strengths and weaknesses as well as external opportunities and threats within the campus culture at YMS, according to Principal Joscyln Wiley.

“We will discuss this information over the next couple of months as we prepare for the 2017-2018 school year,” said Wiley.

General results among teachers and students reflected similarities in the threat assessment of mutual respect among students and teachers, with concerns from both sides about weaknesses created by negative attitudes.

Strengths were reflected in the positive and supportive working environment on campus and the strength of extracurricular activities directed by campus coaches.

Opportunities for the future involved more extracurricular activities offerings and summer activities for students and more technology-driven resources for teachers.image
