Washington- The Historic Washington State Park hosted their free event Music in the Park Saturday evening, June 17. The “Music From Our Roots” concert series begain at 7:30pm with performances by the Silvey family along with the McWilliams family.  Both musical groups are local families of the Southwest Arkansas area. Some may have attended performances of from these groups in the past such as; the Jonquil Festival, local farmers markets,  along with them performing in local churches.

Guests set up lawn chairs and put out blankets at the entrance of the Washington Courthouse.  The steps of the courthouse acted as the stage for night with a sound system and lights set around them to shine on the bands. The music that was performed throughout the night consisted of bluegrass music, along with Americana style music. Some of the songs that were performed were hand written by some of the band members.

The park will be hosting two other Music in Park events this summer. The Purple Hulls will be performing on July 15, and the Oskana Pavilionis will be performing on August 19. The Williams Tavern Restaurant will be open from 11am until 7pm for guests to enjoy a “home cooked” meal before the performances.  Refreshments will be for sell along with all merchandise inside of the courthouse gift shop.
