At approximately 9:02 p.m. on July 3, Deputy Sorensen was dispatched to 2500 Highway 67 West in reference to criminal trespass.
Upon arrival he made contact with Jackie Neal. Neal stated that Steve Rosilier had come onto the property and was knocking on peoples doors. I knew from a previous incident that Rosilier was criminally trespassing on the property.
Deputy Malone and Sorensen then searched the area around Hope in Action. While searching the area we observed Rosilier on a bicycle riding from the back of Hope in Action towards the front gate. Deputy Malone called for Rosilier to come speak with us but he continued to ride towards the front gate. As he passed Deputy Malone, Deputy Malone grabbed him by the right arm and gained control of him. Deputy Sorensen then placed him in handcuffs.
Deputy Sorensen advised Rosilier he was being charged with criminal trespass and he stated that he didn’t care about criminal trespass charges. Deputy Malone transported him to the Hempstead County Detention Center while I made sure that he had not caused any damage around the buildings.
At the Hempstead County Detention Center Steve was booked for criminal trespass with a court date of July 31.
Assault on Family Member
At approximately 6:12 p.m. on July 4, Deputy Sorensen was dispatched to 467 Hempstead 52 in reference to an assault.
Upon arrival he made contact with Wanda Whitley. Whitley stated that her brother, Ronald Fore, has a drinking problem and was getting on her nerves. She stated that last week he started calling her “all kinds of names”. Whitley stated that she “had enough and she went and backhanded him across the face. She said, “she don’t have no tolerance for it”.
I went and spoke with Fore at this point. He stated that Whitley comes to the house and starts problems all the time. He stated today he wanted her to take their mother home with her because Whielty doesn’t help take care of her any. Deputy Sorensen asked him if she had hit him last week and he stated she had but he couldn’t remember what day it had occurred on.
Deputy Sorensen advised Whitley that Fore lived at the residence and was well within his rights to drink so long as he didn’t hurt anyone. Whitley stated she understood but he was just annoying. Deputy Sorensen advised her that him being annoying was no excuse for her to be violent. Sorensen then issued Whitley citation for assault third degree on a family or household member with a court date of July 31.
Animal Complaint
On July 4, at approximately 9:35 a.m., Deputy Loe was dispatched to 745 Highway 355 East in reference to an animal complaint.
Upon arrival he made contact with Steven Powell, who stated that his neighbors had a small black dog that was coming on to his property and acting aggressively. Powell stated the dog has tried to bite him and his guests on numerous occasions and that when it happened this morning, he shot at the ground to scare the dog away. He stated he just wanted a Deputy to speak with neighbors and tell them to keep their dog off his property.
Deputy Loe then went to 118 Church Street in Patmos and made contact with Diana Porter. He advised her that one of her neighbors had called and complained about her dog being on their property and acting aggressively towards them. At that time, the black dog in question approached me in a very playful manner and began to lick my hand. The dog showed no signs of aggression towards me during my visit at the residence. Deputy Loe advised Porter that he didn’t want the dog to get hurt, and that if at all possible, to keep the dog on her property. Porter stated that she understood.
Death Investigation
On July 4, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Deputy Loe was dispatched to 1164 Highway 195 South in reference to a death investigation.
Upon my arrival, he made contact with Kelly Bass who stated she had found her 94-year-old great-great uncle Floyd Chance lifeless in his bed at approximately 8:15 a.m. She stated she had left Chance at approximately 9 p.m. on July 3, and when she left, he seemed to be doing fine.
Coroner Ben Brazzel arrived on scene and pronounced Floyd dead at 9:08 a.m. Chance was then transported by Pafford EMS to Brazzel-Oakcrest funeral home in Hope pending funeral arrangements.
Public Intoxication/Criminal Mischief
On July 4, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Deputy Malone was patrolling around the Springhill High School. He arrived at the back of the school and found two vehicles stuck in mud. Deputy Malone activated my emergency light, and a white male subject exited the driver’s side of a red 2014 Ford F-150. The white male subject was later identified as Katlin Hamilton. As Hamilton approached me Deputy Malone could smell a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his person.
Deputy Malone asked Hamilton what he was doing and he stated he and some of his friends were hanging out behind the school and he got his vehicle a red 2015 Chevrolet Camaro stuck. He stated that he tried to get his vehicle unstuck with his buddies red Ford F-150, and got it stuck as well.
Deputy Malone walked up to the red Ford and observed and open container of Miller Lite beer in the driver’s side cup holder. He observed there were several ruts that were made around the two vehicles along with the ruts that the vehicles were stuck in. Malone asked Hamilton if he made the ruts and he stated he did not. Deputy Malone observed some of the ruts lead up to Hamilton vehicle. Malone looked inside Hamilton’s vehicle and observed a empty bottle of alcohol in the passenger side floor board. Malone then observed another bottle of alcohol in the floor board behind the front passenger’s seat. Malone observed that Hamilton was stumbling around and unsure on his feet. I also observed that Hamilton’s speech was slurred. When Malone questioned Hamilton about the alcohol in both vehicles he stated that none of it was his.
He later admitted to Deputy Luke Sorensen he was driving the Chevrolet Camaro.
Hamilton charged for public intoxication and criminal mischief second degree. Citation number with a court date of August 7, at 9 a.m.
FIRE
At approximately 12:18 a.m. on July 4, Deputy Sorensen was dispatched to 468 Hempstead 5 in reference to a structure fire. He was advised by dispatch that the caller was unaware if everyone was out of the house at this time.
Upon my arrival he made contact with Shane Applegate. Shane stated that upon their arrival the rear of the home was completely engulfed.
Deputy Sorensen made contact with the caller, Jordan Braswell. Braswell stated he was outside at approximately midnight. He stated he heard some “popping” near the burnt house. He stated he didn’t smell any smoke or anything and went to bed. He stated he was lying in bed and saw the sky was orange. He stated he walked back outside and saw the house next door was on fire.
Deputy Sorensen made contact with the homeowner, Donny Chandler. Chandler stated the house is vacant and he has been doing some remodeling on the house. He stated he had been there earlier today doing some work. He stated when he left he turned all the power tools off and made sure everything was turned off. He stated he was unsure how it would have started.
Burglary
On July 3, at approximately 10:59 p.m., Deputy Malone was dispatched 667 Hempstead 32 in reference to a possible residence burglary. Dispatch advised the reporting party advised them someone was inside his house with the lights on, and he could see the people inside.
Upon arrival Deputy Malone observed all of the lights in the house to be off. All windows and doors were locked. He did not observe any vehicles on the property.
Deputy Malone made contact with the reporting party Allen Davenport. Davenport stated he walked down his driveway at 658 Hempstead 32, and saw that the lights were on inside his rent house at 667 Hempstead 32. He stated he walked back to his house and grabbed his phone. Davenport said he walked back to the end of his driveway, and said the lights were off. Davenport stated he messaged his former renters, Eve and Larry Roberts, and asked them if they were at the house. He stated they were supposed to be moved out of the house by today. Davenport said the he received a message back from Eve stated they were not at the residence.
Davenport let Deputy Malone and Deputy Luke Sorensen into the residence so they could clear it. Deputy Malone and Deputy Sorensen cleared the residence and found no one was inside the residence. There are belongings still inside the residence from the previous renters, and it appears they are still in the process of moving out. Davenport provided a phone number for Eve and Larry, Deputy Malone has not made contact with them at this time.
Medical Emergency
At approximately 10:12 p.m., on July 3, Deputy Sorensen was dispatched to 791 Hempstead 14 in reference to a medical emergency.
Upon arrival he made contact with a female. who stated her aunt, has been acting odd and she wanted her to be checked out by a medical professional. She stated her aunt has multiple health problems, is blind, and refuses to go to the hospital. Deputy Malone spoke with the aunt. Who seemed to be coherent and spoke with me but was adamant on the fact that she didn’t need to go to the hospital.
Pafford Paramedic’s arrived on scene and assessed the aunt. He stated there was no reason for them to take her to the hospital if she didn’t wish to go.
Furnishing Prohibited Articles
On July 3, at approximately 10 p.m., Deputy Kyle Malone was dispatched the Hempstead County Detention Center in reference to Sergeant Hardeman finding contraband in an inmate’s property.
Upon arrival he made contact with Sergeant Hardeman. Sergeant Hardeman advised me she found a white powdery substance in inmate Valarie Green’s Property. Sergeant Hardeman stated she found the white powdery like substance in a small blue, white, and pink zip up pouch with pink flamingos. Sergeant Hardeman stated that inmate Green brought the contraband into the Detention Center concealed in her bra on the right side after being arrested for other charges by the Hope Police Department.
Deputy Malone took possession of the white powdery like substance. And tested it with SIRCHIE Nark Cocaine ID Swipe. The white powdery substance made the swipe turn blue indicating Cocaine.
Deputy Malone charged Green with furnishing prohibited articles. Green is now awaiting first appearance.
