PRESCOTT – Bids were opened Tuesday morning for the sidewalk portion of the splash pad.

Three bids were received for the project, which will be to construct sidewalks around six feet wide and using 430 square yards of concrete. The bids were from Tri-State Track, RJR Enterprises and JCON, Inc.

JCON had the low bid at $27,780. Tri-State’s bid was next at $28,210, while RJR had the high bid at $30,467.80.

Bear Davidson, with Marlar Engineering, said before a contract can be let, the numbers from the bids will have to be confirmed, but this shouldn’t be a problem. Once Marlar issues a notice of award, the winning company will have 30 days to get its paperwork submitted. When this is done, the company will be issued a notice to proceed, with contracts signed and work starting.

“The worst case,” he said, “is it would be 35-40 days (before work began depending on how long it takes the company to get its paperwork submitted and contracts signed).” Davidson told Prescott Mayor Terry Oliver and, Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, the plans may need to be modified to leave room for trucks to pour concrete for the splash pad, so the new sidewalks wouldn’t be damaged from the weight. He said the gap could be finished later. He pointed out JCON’s bid included doing the dirtwork for the site.

The sidewalks will run from the handicap area by the playground equipment to the site of the splash pad, and from the pavilion to the pad. Godwin pointed out the original grant proposal didn’t call for 430 square yards of concrete. Davidson said this shouldn’t be a problem and the width of the sidewalks can be adjusted, if necessary.
