New deputy prosecuting attorney sworn in

PRESCOTT – Kolby Harper was sworn in as a deputy prosecuting attorney (DPA) for the Eighth Judicial District North Wednesday morning.

She will be a for both Hempstead and Nevada counties. Circuit Judge Duncan Culpepper officiated the swearing in ceremony at the Nevada County Courthouse. Harper will be serving under Christi McQueen, prosecuting attorney.

“Harper has been working in our office since mid-December,” McQueen said, “and is in the process of moving to Prescott. She is filling the position held by Traci Graham until her recent marriage and relocation to Texas.”

Harper graduated the University of Arkansas School of Law and worked in the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office before joining McQueen’s staff. Harper earned her Bachelor’s degree from Ouachita Baptist University, where she majored in Political Science and Spanish, with a minor in French.

After graduating OBU, she was an Ambassadorial Rotary Scholar, a program of the Rotary International Foundation established to lead to better understanding and relation between Rotary Clubs in the US and host countries. Her duties included Harper representing her local Rotary Club, in Gurdon, and the State of Arkansas in Mendoza, Argentina, for six months. While there, Harper became fluent in Spanish.

Harper, 31, is a native of Gurdon, served on the Gurdon City Council and is a member of Evergreen Church. She enjoys watching movies and collecting and listening to vinyl albums.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to work in this judicial district,” she said, “and eager to get involved with the community.”

Harper brings a perspective and balance to our team of prosecutors,” McQueen said, “that we were lacking. We are very pleased she is joining us to serve the citizens of Hempstead and Nevada counties.”

McQueen’s staff also includes deputy prosecutors Ryan Minney and Matthew Ford.
