NCSO vehicles damaged in chase

A high speed chase on July 4, resulted in damage to a Nevada County Sheriff’s vehicle.

According to a release from the NCSO, around 9 p.m. Chief Deputy Larry Miller and Deputy Jeremy Hendrix were patrolling in the Rosston area, when a call came advising Prescott Police Lt. Alex Gamble of a vehicle entering the Prescott City Limits and being operated in a careless manner. The report states the vehicle was traveling north and using both lanes of the highway.

Gamble was advised the vehicle was circling the Central Baptist Parking lot. At some point the pickup entered Hwy. 371, heading south with the driver refusing to stop. Miller and Hendrix set up south of Laneburg in an attempt to stop the truck, using spike strips.

Gamble radioed the truck had turned onto Hwy. 53 and was still heading south. Miller and Hendrix turned onto Hwy. 372, managing to get in front of the truck. Miller was able to warn other traffic to keep the pursuit at a slow speed, the report states.

Hendrix caught up with other units on Hwy. 53 and joined the pursuit. Several attempts to get the driver of the truck to stop were unsuccessful, as the driver reportedly continued driving in a reckless manner, going from one ditch to the other. About a mile-and-a-half north of U.S. 278, the truck rammed into the right rear of Miller’s vehicle, accelerated and hit the unit again, forcing Miller into a ditch. The driver of the pickup also hit Hendrix’s push bumper, causing minor damage.

The pursuit continued down Hwy. 53, with the driver of the truck veering from ditch to ditch, and, at times, driving in the ditch. Troopers with the Arkansas State Police put a spike strip on Hwy. 53 south of Falcon, causing the tired to be flattened. Still, the driver managed to get three miles into Lafayette County before the vehicle was unable to continue, according to the report.

The driver was identified as Brett Thomas, from Cookeville, TN. He was arrested at the scene and taken by Lafayette County Ambulance to the Magnolia hospital, later being turned over to the NCSO. He is currently being held in the Nevada County Jail on the charges of fleeing by vehicle and aggravated assault.

Drug and firearm arrest

A speeding vehicle on I-30 resulted in the arrest of Tamarcus Jefferson, who was charged with simultaneous possession of a controlled substance and firearm, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and driving on a suspended license.

According to the report, on Jun3 20, Deputy Robert Missey was heading east on I-30 near the 51-mile marker when he saw a vehicle approaching him at a high rate of speed. A radar check showed the vehicle was doing 99 miles an hour in a 70 mph zone.

Missey stopped the BMW, who was identified as Jefferson of Little Rock. While talking to the driver, Missey reportedly saw a clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in the passenger seat. Jefferson was removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest, with Missey also taking the bag as evidence.

NCSO Criminal Investigator Jeremy Hendrix arrived to assist. A further search of the car turned up a white, powdery substance believed to be cocaine and an AR-15 rifle. The powdery substance tested positive as being cocaine, and weighed roughly six grams. The green leafy substance was also weighed and tipped the scale at about 50 grams.

Jefferson was taken to the NC Jail on the aforementioned charges.

Arrest made

 

Shortly after 4:15 p.m. on June 25, Nickolas Recardo Williams, of Rosston, was arrested by Sgt. Steve Otwell.

At the time, according to the report, Otwell was patrolling Hwy. 24, heading east when he saw an orange Pontiac heading west at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crossed the center line into Otwell’s lane.

Otwell turned around and attempted to stop the Pontiac, noticing the driver pass another vehicle just before entering a curve. The report states the chase went about 12 miles before the driver of the Pontiac turned into the driveway of a house.

Otwell arrested Williams and took him to the Nevada County Jail.
