Music in the Park

WASHINGTON- The Historic Washington State Park hosted their Music in the Park Celebration Saturday night. The concert kicked off around 7:30 on the lawn on the front steps of the Courthouse. The Purple Hulls band consists of twins Katy Lou and Penny Lea Clark. With 100 plus people attending, The Purple Hulls put on a great gospel bluegrass musical performance. They created their name The Purple Hulls after working during the summer in the dads garden picking purple hull peas. They used the money that was earned by selling the peas to help pay for their college at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. With their songs on iTunes they also had CDs for sale at the event.  They played songs that they had written themselves such as “Things I wish my Daddy Knew” and they also sang songs from other blue grass artists such as, “Roly Poly” by Bob Wills.  These red headed twins had been in Nashville for 5 years before moving back home to East Texas nearly four years ago. During their time in Nashville they got to tour with some of Nashville’s stars along with write songs for Nashville’s largest record label Sony Tree.
