Rev. Jessie Scroggins

OZAN – Rev. Jessie L. Scroggins was known by his family and friends as Red. He departed this life on July 31, 2017 with his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters and brothers by his bedside.
Jessie was born and raised on a little farm called “Skooter Farm” in Columbus, Arkansas. They later moved to Ozan, Arkansas, where he attended Nashville Schools. He later graduated from Lincoln High School in Washington, Arkansas in 1972 and went on to attend college in Shreveport. Upon his return home, he began to work at Tyson Foods in Nashville and later worked at Hudson Foods in Hope in 1976. He was a member of St. Luke CME Church of Ozan, where he served as an usher, he was a devoted Doorkeeper. Later, Rev. Scroggins entered the ministry under the direction of J.D. Smith, he was assigned to Ash Berry French in Foreman, Flint Hill, Hickory Grove and later at Saint Peter CME Church, until his health declined.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 40 years, Mary Scroggins of Ozan; three daughters, Shenika Scroggins (Amber) of Washington, Sharita Williams (Cedric) of Mineral Springs, Laceka (Joseph) Sauls, friend, Ronnie Golston of Nashville, one son, Jessie L. Scroggins, Jr. of Hope; 8 grandchildren, Alvin Coulter, Jr., Shania Muldrew, Emagiyea Thomas, Michael Sykes, Jontavia Scroggins, Antwan Sauls, Zyion McElroy, Nila Sauls; siblings, Marie Taylor (RC), Helen Armstrong, John Wayne Armstrong, Solomon Scroggins (Gracie) all of Ozan, David Scroggins, Jr. (Sylvia) of Denver, CO; two great aunts, Ardean Golston of Nashville and Pearlie Mae Floyd of Denver, CO; one sister-in-law, Ethel Scroggins of Ozan; three brothers-in-law, Ollie Moore (Christine), Major Moore, Jr. (friend, Marva Joyce) both of Columbus, Johnny Moore (Kim) of Mansfield, Ohio and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 11am-5pm Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 11am Saturday, August 5 at St. Luke CME Church. Burial will be at St. Luke Cemetery in Ozan. Arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc.
