HOPE- The Hope Civitan Club held its meeting on August 8. When arriving to the meeting each member and guest were handed the meeting agenda. The meeting was called to order at 6:09 by the President, Mona Still followed by invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance and the reading of the Civitan Creed.

Hempstead County Sheriff, James Singleton was the guest speaker for the evening. He spoke on the idea of turning the migrant center into a juvenile center. With Hempstead County having the highest juvenile rates in the state this is something the county is wanting to see happen.  Plans have not been put into action at the moment but after doing research and discovering the State owns the property they hope to be able to purchase it. If the county were to purchase the property it would not only bring benefits for the juveniles but for the counties economic growth by allowing more jobs. They hope to be able to have 30-50 beds to house juveniles from within our county as well as those in the Southwest Arkansas region. If Hempstead County were to open the center it would be the only one in southwest Arkansas.

The Civitan Club worldwide mission is to build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs, with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. The Hope Civilian Club will be hosting the car show at this years Watermelon Festival along with serving watermelon slices on Thursday. They have helped with different non profit organizations within the community such as Hope In Action where they donated 15-20 towels. They also have helped Hope In Action by providing birthday parties for the children that are in their residents. The provide the children with gifts, balloons, and cake.
