Watermelon Auction

The Bright family is not only known around Hope and Hempstead County but as well as around the world, for holding world records in 1979, 1985, and for their third time in 2005. Although no world records were broken today people gathered under the Super One tent  just to get a glimpse and take pictures of some of the largest melons from the Bright Family Farm for the year.

Five watermelons were weighed in today with the smallest weighing 129 pounds and the largest weighing in at 197 pounds. The melons were auctioned off to the highest bidder by auctioneer Don Worthy. The 129 pound along with a 173 pound melons were sold for $100, a 175 pound melon sold for $125, the 196 pound melon sold for $135 and the largest melon of the day weighing 197 pounds sold for $200.
