Friends of NRA Banquet Sept. 30

PRESCOTT – It’s almost time for the annual Piney Woods Friends of the NRA banquet.

This year’s banquet will be held on Sept. 30 in the Potlatch Building at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. Between now and then, though, area residents can purchase chances to win one of eight guns being raffled off. The first was raffled off last week with Robin Ridgell winning.

The weapons being raffled include: a Glock 43 9mm handgun; a S&W .38-caliber revolver; a S&W M&P Shield 9mm handgun; a Savage Axis .243 rifle with scope; a FMK 9mm handgun; a Henry golden boy .22 lever action rifle; a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun; a Century Arms 9mm handgun; and a Remington 783 30-06 rifle and scope. Only 40 chances are being sold for each drawing at $20 each.

This year’s gun of the year is a Daniel Defense M4 5.56 NATO rifle. Other NRA exclusives that will be at the banquet include: a Colt competition pistol 1911 .45 caliber ACP; Kimber K6sTM .357 magnum revolver; Henry Big Boy Silver lever action rifle .44 magnum; a 9mm Sig Sauer P320 compact handgun; Kel-Tec PMR-30 .22 magnum pistol; a Crickett .22 rifle; and more.

This year’s early bird special will be a Century Arms .9mm handgun.

Tables can be purchased for the event. The Liberty level goes for $300 and comes with a Case knife with presentation box, “Traditions” magazine and a sponsor hat. The Heritage level is $750 and includes the choice of a Liberty safe HDX-250 handgun smart vault or a Yeti Roadie 20 tan cooler with NRA logo. For $1,500 the Freedom level can be purchased and the buyer gets to pick from a Kimber Micro 9 two-tone 9mm handgun; Kel-Tec CMR-30 .22 rifle with 30 round magazine or an Uberti 1873 single action cattleman steel .45 caliber revolver. The Pioneer level runs $2,500 and includes the choice of a Colt competition 1911 .45 caliber handgun or a Kimber Model 84L 30-06 rifle. For the big spenders, the Patriot level costs $5,000 and comes with the choice of a Winchester Model 73 357/38 rifle; Colt Marine .45 ACP handgun; Kimber Custom II Warrior SOC 1911 .45 caliber handgun; or a Remington UMC Commemorative 1911.

The banquet is a fundraising event for the Piney Woods Friends of the NRA and money raised is used to support youth shooting sports, such as 4-H shooting teams; high school shooting teams; community college shooting teams; Boy and Girl Scout shooting teams; the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program; and the Women on Target program.

None of the money goes to support the National Rifle Association. All donations are tax deductible as the Piney Woods Friends of the NRA is a 501(c)3 organization.
