FALL FEST

PRESCOTT – It’s almost time for the Annual Fall Festival.

This year’s festival will be held on Oct. 14, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Nevada County Courthouse. It will be a day full of events and plenty of fun for everyone.

The day will start early, with registration for the 5k set for 7 a.m. with the run starting at 8. This year’s 5-k will be a “color run” with runners having chalk dust thrown at them as they run. Pre-registration must be done by Sept. 28 in order to get a t-shirt and packet. The packet, according to Jamie Hillery, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, contains chalk, sunglasses and route information. The fun run will start at 8:15 a.m. There will be seven age groups in the run: 0-9; 10-14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; and 50 and over. Those who register early will pay $25, while it will cost $30 the day of the race, and those who register the day of the race won’t get a shirt. The kid’s fun run will start at 11 a.m. beside Prescott Flowers/Yours Truly.

Hillery said the festival is still looking for craft, food and information vendors. Anyone interested needs to contact the Chamber by Oct. 3 to be included.

A bunco tournament will be held in the courtroom of the courthouse. There will be door and cash prizes for the contestants. To enter, call Julie Oliver at 870-887-2710.

The festival will again feature the Calvin Brown Memorial 3-on-3 tournament behind the courthouse. This year’s event will also feature a “shoot-out” with hot shot and free throw competitions. The entry fee for the shoot-out is $20 per player. There are two age divisions for boys and girls: K-6 and 7-12. Those interested need to pre-register by 4:30 p.m. at the Chamber by Oct. 6 to get a shoot-out t-shirt. This event will start at 10 a.m.

This year’s festival, Hillery said, will have the pet costume contest at 2 p.m. on the courthouse steps, and be followed by the Mr. and Miss Fall Festival Pageant at 3 o’clock, also on the courthouse steps. Boys competing for Mr. Fall Fest will be eligible up to age three, while girls from 0-9 can enter.

A new event this year is an archery booth, sponsored by Shelter Insurance.

The festival will also feature favorites, such as the pumpkin treasure hunt, which will net whoever finds it a cool $150. The first clue will be given out at 9:30 a.m. For the brave at heart, or just those who are hungry and don’t mind getting messy, there will also be a pie eating contest.

There will be a dunking booth, inflatables and plenty of other games and activities, including the ever-popular train. This year’s featured performer will be the Jason Helms Band, taking the stage at noon.

The Chamber will be selling chances on a Yeti cooler, with the winner announced at the festival.
