Hempstead County Bicentennial Celebration Planning Committee

HOPE- The Hempstead County Bicentennial Celebration Planning Committee met Monday October 2nd at the Tailgaters’ meeting room in downtown Hope. After a recap of the previous meeting, the groupd looked over a handbook prepared by the HCBC Steering Committee. The handbook outlined recommended meeting rules, process, and representation. Committee procedures were presented and approved and a proposal of an event was approved. This event would involve ringing bells and possibly sirens on the actual date of the county’s 200th birthday, December 15th, 2018. The group agreed to continue to purse this event..
The committee approved honorary executive appointments. These will include the county judge and all Hempstead County mayors in office between now and December 19th, 2018.
The HSBC Executive Committee was approved. It will include four co-chairs. They are John Hollis, Margaret Moss, Cathy Struckman, and Mayor Marion Hoosier of McCaskill. Cherry Stewart and Richard Read are to serve as liasons. Also slated to serve as liasons are Josh Williams, Steve Montgomery, Beckie Moore, and Dolly Henley. Serving as liasons from the county townships are Henry Hale of Bois D’Arc, Gary Johnson of DeRoan, Gary Chambless of Garland, Mark Keith of Ozan, dale Gathright of Saline, and Kathryn Dickinson of Water Creek. Two other proposed but not verified township representatives were presented. They are Jamie Steed of Wallaceburg and Tom Krane of Bodcaw.
A finance committee was approved. It will include co-chairs Kim Hollis and Dennis Ramsey. Other committees approved included arts and culture, historical, promotion and advertising, and education and schools.
Representatives are still being sought for the Mine Creek and Spring Hill townships.
The next meeting will be publicized in the media and all interested persons may attend.
