FISH FRY HOMECOMING 024

PRESCOTT – Homecoming went off without a hitch for the Curley Wolves Friday night as Prescott dropped the Horatio Lions, 47-0.

The homecoming queen and her court were recognized prior to kickoff. The senior maids were: Anna Bell Byers, Margherita Bano, Lenell Johnson, MaryBeth McRoy, Keyonna Nard, M’Kayla Northcross, Barbie Smith and Emily Sullins. The maid at large was Haleigh Wiley, while Alye Cornelius was the flower girl and Connor Morman was the crown bearer. This year’s homecoming queen was Lacie Nolen.

The Wolves improved their record to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. To date, the Wolves haven’t given up a single point in conference play, pitching the third consecutive shutout. The Lions had no chance at winning the game. This was obvious from the outset as the Wolves won the toss and took the ball.

Horatio tried to get cute with an onside kick, only to see Riley Robbins fall on the ball at the Prescott 43 to get the game started. The Wolves needed slightly more than a minute-and-a-half to score, as the Lions defense had no remedy for Prescott’s offense. The first score came on a six yard run by MyKal Burns with 10:29 showing. The point after made it 7-0.

Oddly enough, that was the extent of scoring in the period.

The ensuing kick went into the end zone for a touchback. The Lions managed to get a first down on a 23-yard run on Horatio’s first play of the game. This also ended Horatio’s offense for the drive as the Lions went nowhere and punted to the Prescott 12 with 8:25 showing.

Three plays saw the Wolves lose a yard and punt to the Prescott 48 with 7:38 left in the period.

Again it was three and punt for the Lions with Thomas Muldrew fielding the ball at the seven, returning it to the 33. From there the Wolves drove to the Lion 24 in 12 plays before turning the ball over on downs with 1:59 to go.

The Lions went backwards from there with the Wolves sacking the quarterback at the 14, forcing a punt as the first quarter ended. Horatio was looking at a fourth and 20 at the start of the second and punted to the Lion 40.

Six plays later, Muldrew went in from the five for Prescott’s second score of the game. The PAT made it 14-0 with 10:23 left in the half.

Prescott went for an onside kick and recovered the ball at the Lion 46. It took the Wolves seven plays to reach the Promised Land, which came on a one-yard run by Isaiah Wayne with 8:33 showing. The PAT put the Wolves up 21-0.

Horatio started at its 20 after the kick went into the end zone. The Lions made it to the Prescott 39, with the aid of a horse collar call, but fumbled with the Wolves recovering it on the 43 with 3:18 on the clock.

The Wolves lost three yards in three plays and lined up for a punt on fourth and 13. After the snap, Ka’Darius Pearson waited for the defense to peel back for a return and took off, getting to the Lion 39 before being brought down. The drive took nine plays and ended with Burns going in from21 yards out with 34 seconds remaining. The point after put the Wolves up 28-0, which was the score at the break as the Lions did nothing after the kick.

Horatio got the ball to open the second half, returning a shorter kick to the 26. The Lions fumbled on first down, but recovered at the 17. Two plays later the Lions were at the Horatio 20 and were in punt formation. Colton Johnson broke through, blocked the punt and recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown with 9:36 left in the third. Horatio blocked the extra point, but still trailed 34-0.

The kick was returned to the 25, but the Lions were still at the 25 three plays later and punted. Horatio got a great roll on the punt as the ball stopped at the Prescott 11 with 6:52 to go.

Muldrew took over under center for the Wolves as the Prescott coaches began substituting. The Wolves ran seven straight running plays, getting to the Lions 21. Muldrew found Cox who fought his way to the four. His next pass for Pearson was high. Muldrew scored on a four-yard run to make the score 40-0 and invoke the mercy rule. The PAT was no good.

Horatio returned the kick to the Lion 30 and managed to run two plays before the period ended. The Lions lost two on third and eight and punted to the Prescott 40. Horatio found it couldn’t run or pass against Prescott’s defense, not that the Lions attempted many passes in the game.

The Wolves sent in an entirely new offense with Larry Peters the new quarterback. He led the team 60 yards in seven plays, scoring himself on a three-yard run. Bernardo Gonzalez came in for the point after, booting it through the uprights to make it 47-0.

The kick was returned to the 21. The Lions managed to get to the Horatio 42 as the game ended.

Prescott will be on the road the next two weeks as the Wolves travel to Glen Rose next week, and Benton Harmony Grove on Oct. 20. The next home game will be Senior Night on Oct. 27 when the Wolves host Bismarck. The regular season will end on the road to Jessieville.

Kickoff for all remaining games is 7 p.m.
