PRESCOTT – There have been some major changes for this year’s Lion’s Club Auction.

First, this year’s auction won’t be held at the Nevada County Courthouse, as it’s been done in the past. Instead, the auction will be held in the Potlatch Building, which will provide more room for club members and patrons alike. Next, the dates have been changed. Ordinarily, the auction is held in early December, but, to give area residents a leg up on Christmas shopping, this year the auction will be held Nov. 16 and 18, starting at 6 o’clock each night.

Patsy Laughard, club member in charge of the auction, said the idea of changing the date was to give people the chance to pick up auction items before getting the bulk of their holiday shopping done. The move to the Potlatch Building, she added, will provide more space for everyone and won’t be as cramped as the courthouse. Additionally, the acoustics in the Potlatch Building are better than those in the courthouse, which will give the club more room to spread items out so they can be seen by patrons.

Some of the auction items can be seen at tonight’s Christmas Consumer Expo, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Potlatch Building. Laughard said a child’s Razorback bench will be auctioned off, as will a grill made by students at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope (UACCH).

Penny Lynch, club president, said there will also be tons of gift certificates and plenty of hams and turkeys to be auctioned off. Also, she continued, there will be an autographed Curley Wolf football helmet, tongue-in-groove boards, telephones and a basket from the Barkin’ Barn.

Both Lynch and Laughard said this is nowhere near all of the items, as the club members are still working to collect goods for sale. The silent auction also returns.

Lynch said this is a great opportunity for people to buy Christmas gifts before the Black Friday sales start. “We hope to have a good auction.”

Money raised from the auction will be used to fund the club’s programs, such as scholarships and holiday gift baskets.
