Fraud/Media Scam

At approximately 9:51 a.m. on November 11, Deputy Sorensen was dispatched to 2150 Highway 355 South in reference to fraud.

Upon arrival he made contact with James Martin, who stated yesterday he received a phone call from someone claiming to be a Sergeant James Miller, who works for the Narcotics division of Dallas PD.  He stated Sergeant Miller told him Tracy Bramlett, a friend of his, had been arrested and needed money for bail.

He stated Sergeant Miller told him Tracy needed $4,000 dollars for bond money. Sergeant Miller told him they could not accept checks because he lived out of state, and they could only accept Wal-Mart or Target gift cards.  He stated at this time Sergeant Miller let him speak with someone who sounded like Bramlett over the phone for a few minutes.  He stated the last time he spoke with Bramlett was approximately 15 years ago, after she had worked for him. He stated he then went to Wal-Mart in Nashville and Target in Texarkana and got a $2,000 gift card from Target and 10 $200 gift cards from Wal-Mart.  He stated that he then called Sergeant Miller at 437-925-5383 and gave him the numbers for all of the gift cards.

Martin stated this morning he received another phone call from Sergeant Miller.  He stated this time Sergeant Miller told him Bramlett needed another $4,000 to pay for lawyer fees. He stated he called his credit card company to extend his cards so he could send the money to her. When he called the company, they advised him he was being scammed and he needed to call the police.  Martin stated he called Target about the gift card he purchased and they stated it had been redeemed at the Broadway Mall in Chula Vista California last night.
