FIREWORKS1PRESCOTT – A fireworks show is being scheduled for July 4 in Prescott.

Jerry Hightower, a member of the Prescott City Council, said a fireworks show was held last year and sponsored by First Baptist Church. He checked to see if the church would be doing it again this year as he wanted the city to sponsor it. FBC officials said there would be no problem if the city took it over this year. According to Hightower, funds were put in the budget for the event, which will be held as a grand opening of the splash pad. He said he knows where fireworks can be purchased cheaper and people who can put on a 15-20 minute show.

Hightower talked with Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, and Jamie Hillery, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce about doing things in town based on what Prescott is best known for, such as possibly having a fried pie and homemade ice cream contest and maybe something to do with chickens and eggs.

However, he said his main focus is on July 4.
