Residential Burglary

At approximately 1:47 a.m. on March 17, Deputy Sorensen was dispatched to 194 Hempstead 1012 in reference to a residential burglary.

Upon arrival he made contact with Tonya Whitley, who stated that she arrived home from work a little after 1 a.m.  She stated that when she got home her horses were acting up and running around their pen.

She stated noticed the money she had on her nightstand was missing.  She stated she was missing $300. She stated she was also missing approximately 30 20 mg Paxil tablets, 60 200 mg Epitol tablets, and 30 1 mg Xanax tablets.  She stated when she looked through her house she also noticed a Hotpoint brand microwave missing from her kitchen.

Theft of Property

On March 16 at approximately 1:46 p.m., Deputy Kyle Rowe was dispatched to 621 Highway 73 West in reference to theft of property.

Upon arrival, he made contact with Paul Williams, who stated on Wednesday, March 14, at approximately 1 p.m. his wife, Teressa saw a silver four door car pull up to their shop.

He stated Teressa saw a tall black male get out of the vehicle and started walking around the shop acting like he was looking for something. Williams stated the male then went inside the shop and when Teressa came outside from her residence to ask what he was doing he drove off in a fast manner.

Williams stated he walked into his shop to see if anything was missing and he saw he had two chainsaws missing. Williams also stated one of the chainsaws was made by Poulan and the other was made by Craftsman.

Misdemeanor Theft

On Friday March 16, at about 10:56 A.M., Deputy Keith Sullivan was driving west on U.S. Highway 67, west of Perrytown. As he drove by the intersection with Nip-N-Tuck Road N, he observed a green van stopped on Nip-N-Tuck N, near the intersection with U.S. 67. The rear lift-gate of the van was up and a culvert was protruding out the back of the van.

A black male and black female were at the rear of the van. Deputy Sullivan turned around and drove onto Nip-N-Tuck road, as the van was traveling north on Nip-N-Tuck. Deputy Sullivan caught up to the van.

The operator of the van stopped, Deputy Sullivan approached the driver and asked for his license and insurance for the van. The driver, Eric Conner presented an AR ID card and said that his license was suspended. The right front passenger, Barbara Cooper presented an AR driver’s license and said the vehicle was hers, and began searching through papers to find the proof of insurance.

Deputy Sullivan asked them where they got the culvert, and Conner said they had got it from the side of the road we were on. Deputy Sullivan also saw a “no littering” road sign in the back of the van with the culvert. He contacted Hempstead County Judge Morse, and he confirmed a culvert had recently been replaced, on Nip-N-Tuck N, and the county removes the old culverts and resells them.

Deputy Sullivan followed Cooper and Conner approximately 1/4 mile to the location they got the culvert and they unloaded it and the sign and placed them back on the roadside for the county road department to retrieve them. Deputy Sullivan issued Connor a citation for theft of property, under $1000 and issued Cooper a citation for theft of property under $1000.

Stolen Handgun

On March 14 at approximately 11:13 p.m., Deputy Orlando Dennis was dispatched to contact Harlie Owen by phone in reference to his stolen handgun.

Deputy Dennis contacted Owen, who his Black 380 Cobra Denali handgun had been stolen. Owen stated he does not know who got his gun. He provided Deputy Dennis with the serial number and the handgun was entered into the ACIC/NCIC system as stolen.
