Splater a Horatio Alger State Scholar

HOPE – Nathaniel Splater, a University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana concurrent credit high school student from Lafayette County High School, was selected as a Horatio Alger State Scholar.

As a State Scholar, he will receive a $10,000 college scholarship to be used to pursue a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States. Nathaniel is one of 615 recipients in the nation to receive this scholarship one of seven in the State of Arkansas. Students receiving this scholarship demonstrated a strong commitment to pursing and completing a bachelor’s degree, a critical financial need, commitment to co-curricular and community service activities, displayed integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, and maintained an above average GPA.

As one of the nation’s largest college financial aid programs in the country, the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program is one of the major scholarship programs nationally that specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. The scholarships are funded by Horatio Alger Members who, like the Scholars, have experienced challenges but ultimately overcame them to become successful business and civic leaders.
