WWI volunteers at courthouse, approx 1917PRESCOTT – Mudpuppy and Waterdog will be at the Nevada County Courthouse at 6 p.m. on May 23.

The company is working on an interpretive plan for the Elkin’s Ferry and Prairie D’Ane Civil War battlefields for Prescott and Nevada County.

On May 30, the Nevada County Depot Museum will be hosting a community coffee to celebrate National Heritage Month.

The theme, according to Museum Curator Ken Petre, is “A State of War: Arkansas Remembers World War I”. It will reflect the ongoing centennial commemoration of Arkansas’ part in WWI. Petre and Peggy Lloyd, a member of the museum’s board of directors, obtained a grant for $3,000 from the Arkansas Heritage Commission to prepare an exhibit showing those from Nevada County who went to war at the time. The exhibit consists of four banners, with the names of the approximately 550 men from the county who served in WWI. Their names are listed in alphabetical order.

The exhibit has been on displace since May 1, and has toured the schools in the county. It will be at the Nevada County Depot Museum from May 22-31.
