By Taylor Massey, 06/28/17 9:15 AM

AZ Turner PicAZ Turner, age 88, of Hope went to heaven on June 27, 2017.  AZ was born to Clinton Edward (Papa Ed) and Lillie Mae Morgan Turner (Grandma Turner) in their home on the Battlefield Loop in Springhill, Arkansas on October 2, 1928.

He was one of seven children, and was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Valdean Cobb, son, Dennis Turner, and siblings, Howard, CC (Clyde), Ernest, and Dorothy Cochran, and his lifelong best friend, Alvin Huckabee.

He is survived by two sons, Danny Turner and wife, Nancy, children, Paul, Jenny, and Amy, son Terry Turner and wife, Rita, children Mandy, Jeff, and Staci.  He is also survived by two siblings, Erma Ann Thomas and Lloyd Turner, Dennis’ wife Tina, their children, Tracy, Clinton, and Courtney.  He had fourteen great grandchildren and numerous great- great grandchildren. He was loved and adored by them all, and his greatest job and joy was his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

AZ was widely known as a great and giving man, and is kindly remembered for his never-ending lines of credit at his stores in Hope and Springhill, where he and Valdean would just “put in on my tab” to help others out.  Before he returned to Arkansas to run a sawmill, build houses, operate stores and log, he moved his family to Oregon to work for the telephone company and picked grapes in California.  He believed in the value of hard work and providing for his family. He was a friend and helper to anyone in need.  He taught life lessons through his example, and he will forever be remembered and missed as Peo.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Herndon Pharr Funeral Home in Hope, Arkansas. Funeral service will be Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11:00 am at Anderson Baptist Church in Spring Hill, Arkansas.
