Each year the Chamber receives nominations from the community for Citizen of the Year. This year’s Citizen of the Year nomination letter reads like this:
The person I am nominating for Citizen of the Year attended school at Bodcaw and graduated from Nevada High School in 1989. He married his high school sweetheart Lee and they reside in the Bodcaw community where they are raising their three children.
In the past, he owned and operated a construction business. Since 2004, he and his wife have owned and operated Barr’s Junction Restaurant and General Store in Rosston. In addition to being a business owner in the county, he is a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.
He is currently serving as the Assistant Chief of the Bodcaw Fire Department and is active in all county fire activities. He and his family attend Bethany Baptist Church in Spring Hill where he has served as song director and is always supportive and involved in all church youth activities. He has always been a big supporter of Nevada Public Schools. He coaches, as well as sponsors a little league baseball team. He has supported all types of community projects and has donated his labor and furnished materials to help many needy families throughout the county. He has been a special blessing to many elderly people in the southern part of the county by helping them with home repairs. Recently he volunteered to install 911 signs for the town of Cale residents.
His many contributions to his community and southern Nevada County are too numerous to mention. His Christian leadership and attitude speaks for itself in his everyday life and friendly smile. There has never been a request for help that he did not respond to and in most cases, complete the task. These are the reasons behind his nomination as Citizen of the Year.
The 2013 Citizen of the Year is Mr. David Barr.
