A De Queen woman is heading into the new year a lot richer as Sherry Miller stepped forward to collect her $2 million prize in the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Powerball drawing.
Miller claimed the prize Monday at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center in Little Rock. After $140,000 in state taxes and $250,000 in federal taxes, she took home $1,610,000.
Miller’s win is the result of $2 spent on a Powerball ticket at B & B Junction on Highway 71 North in Lockesburg. She correctly chose the five white-ball numbers on the ticket and paid $1 for the Powerplay, which doubled her $1 million winnings.
Miller, who was joined in Little Rock by family members as she accepted her check, says she wants to spend the money to purchase a home for her family and grandchildren.
