A Spring Hill man was severely injured Friday morning when he lost control of his pick-up and plowed into a residence. Gary Anderson was headed north on Highway 174(Spring Hill Road) around 8:40 a.m. when he apparently accelerated and drove off the west side of the highway crashing into the living room of Cecil and Lucille Rogers’ home.
The Rogers, who were dining at the kitchen table at the time of the accident, were not injured. Anderson was conscious and talking. Lucille Rogers says he told her that he passed out while driving. He was transported by Pafford EMS to Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana.
After leaving the highway, Anderson’s pickup jumped a barbed wire fence and shot up a steep embankment. He also ran over some small pine trees and crashed through a gate before taking out a 10-foot section of the home’s front wall.
The Rogers say they didn’t see the truck coming through the wall, but they heard what sounded like an explosion as broken glass and debris went flying into the hallway.
The accident was investigated by Hempstead County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Crider and Arkansas State Trooper Kyle D. Peek.
