Four charged with public intoxication in cemetery

Four people were arrested after deputies were called to an indicent in a Hempstead County cemetery.

Hempstead County Sheriff's Department deputies were dispatched to area around Avery's Cemetery in McCaskill Tuesday when a call was received that someone had hit a tombstone and broke his hand and the bone was sticking out.

While in route to the call the dispatcher advised the deputies that the people that called sounded very intoxicated.

Deputies located the people at Friendship Cemetery at 4688 Highway 371 where they made contact with Keith Fox, 22, of Gurdon; David Smithpeters, 18, of Prescott; Brandie Smillie, 20, of Gurdon; and Rebecca Fielding, 22, of Gurdon.

Deputies say Fox told them he got mad and hit a tree and broke his hand when he and Smillie got into an argument. The man's hand was swollen and appeared to be broken.

The deputies say they had noticed the smell of intoxicants when Fox stated that all of them had been drinking.

Deputies then spoke with Smillie and Fielding, who they say both appeared to be very intoxicated.

Two empty Canadian Reserve Whiskey bottles were observed sitting beside the two. When deputies asked the pair to stand up they say they stumbled.

Deputies asked the Smillie and Fielding about the empty bottles and say they were told that they drank them. The deputies say Fielding stated that she bought the liquor and did not want any body else to get into trouble.

EMS transported Fox to Saint Michael's due to the nature of his injuries.

All four were charged with Public Intoxication.

Fielding was also charged with Contributing the the Delinquency of a Minor.

Fielding, Smillie and Smithpeters were taken to the Hempstead County Detention Facility following their arrest.

Fox will be charged with Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor once he is released from the hospital.
