Four injured in wreck

HOPE – Four people were injured in a one vehicle accident that occurred around 3:45 p.m. Saturday on Hwy. 73.

According to a release from the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office, when deputies arrived at the scene they found two boys, one 17, the other 11, standing outside a white Jeep that had flipped over and was laying on the passenger’s side, leaning against a tree on the side of the road. Both had several cuts and scrapes. However, a deputy also saw a seven-year-old girl was trapped under the vehicle.

He called for the Hope Fire Department and emergency medical services. He also noticed the child’s mother had been thrown from the vehicle and was on her back in the woods on the other side of the Jeep.

The deputy attended the child while waiting for EMS to arrive. Cpl. Casey Singleton arrived and assisted. Two ambulances also arrived on the scene and began working on the mother and child. HFD arrived with the Southwest Volunteer Fire Department to help extract the child. Once the girl was removed, she was taken to an area where she was airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little rock.

The mother and other boys were taken to St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. There is no word as to their condition at this time.

The cause of the accident was not reported in the release.
