George DeWoody

George Louis DeWoody, 63, of Jenks, OK died peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at St. John’s Medical Center, Tulsa, OK.

He was born December 15, 1953, in Prescott, to the late Ashley Edward DeWoody and Imogene Morgan DeWoody. He married Patricia Ann Garrett on November 17, 1979, who predeceased him in 2008.

George is survived by his children, Lucas W. DeWoody and Leona A. DeWoody of Jenks, OK. Also surviving him are siblings; Charlotte Woody (Jim), John K, DeWoody (Kathy), and William A. DeWoody (Meredith) all of Prescott, AR, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

George graduated from Prescott High School in 1971, where he was a fearless member of the Curley Wolves, being named “All-District” his senior year. After graduation, George chose a career path that would allow him to enjoy his love of outdoors. He studied at the ARKLA Gas School of Welding, and worked with them for several years. George was considered one of the best in his trade, and soon earned a master welder position with R&R Pipeline Construction Company.

In July 1999, George suffered extensive injuries from a pipeline explosion. His love for family and strong will helped him battle for his life. His life was not easy, but George did not let this horrific accident define him. In spite of is health and physical restrictions, George (with the loving help of his children) was able to find joy at the DeWoody – Greer Hunting Club, rebuilding his prized Jeep, attending bluegrass music festivals, wrestling mania matches and Dallas Cowboy football games. Most importantly, he found joy in seeing his children grow to adulthood, knowing their unselfish devotion and love for him.

Funeral services will be held at Reed -Culver Funeral Home in Tahlequah, OK on Friday, March 17, 2017, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Box Cemetery, Vian, OK.
