Hope lawyer can’t represent appealing criminal defendants for next year

A Hope attorney was suspended recently from representing clients before the Arkansas Court of Appeals or the Arkansas Supreme Court for the next 12 months, and also received a $50 fine.

The Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Professional Conduct issued the order to William Kurt Moritz as the result to his actions in criminal proceedings involving a client, Michael Anderson.

The committee found that Moritz failed to file a timely appeals brief on Anderson’s behalf, failed to keep Anderson advised about the status of his appeal, and failed to cite authority or advance any argument for his client concerning the sufficiency of the evidence in the appeal.
