Zachery Allen
A Hope man was charged with battery resulting from an incident that occurred as his family was opening presents on Christmas Eve.
Deputy Freddie Parks was called to the incident Monday at 8 p.m. at 456 Hempstead 56.
Zachery Allen, 22, was charged with Assault on a Family or Household Member and Domestic Battery Third Degree.
A family member said that after his daughter opened a present she didn’t like and threw it down, he swatted the girl on her bottom to correct her behavior. Next thing he knew he was jumped on by Allen and the two fell down.
The family member says Allen struck him several times before they could be separated.
Family members said Allen had been acting erratic the last several days. They say they don’t know what prompted him to become violent.
Deputy Parks transported Allen to the Hempstead County Detention Center. His court date was set for February 4, 2013.
