Hope Schools Makes Homeschool Outreach
By Staff, 02/25/17 5:40 AMHOPE – The Hope Public School District is preparing to reach out to parents of homeschooled children within the district to offer them a wide range of resources for their children.
HPSD Superintendent Bobby Hart said that he wants to meet with parents of all homeschooled children who reside in the Hope district to discuss the opportunities.
“If you want to homeschool, that’s fine, but, let us give you an avenue to do that which produces a means to a quality education for the student,” Hart said.
Under state law, homeschooled students residing in a public school district may be afforded resources of the district if they are enrolled in the district. Homeschooled students may soon have the opportunity to enroll in as many as six classes, based upon pending legislation.
“Right now, they can come back and participate in athletics, band, or a physics class,” Hart said. “We just want to expand those choices.”
Advantages which this provision brings for homeschooled students and their families include access to the full HPSD curriculum and virtual instruction, he said.
“All they have to provide is a home internet connection,” Hart said.
Software and the hardware to deliver it are provided by the district.
Hart wants to meet with parents of homeschooled students March 14 at 6:00pm in the Hope High School Cafeteria in an open forum.
“Right now, the parents are footing the entire bill and still paying taxes,” Hart said.
