PRESCOTT – There’s a new civic organization in town – the Junior Auxiliary of Nevada County.

The JA hosted a community coffee Thursday at the Nevada County Library. JA President Samantha Gummeson, said the coffee was to let the community know the JA exists in Prescott and Nevada County, along with some of the group’s plans. The idea, she said, is for the JA to help the community get things done, including helping children and students.

The JA plans to take over the annual Easter Egg Hunt next year and make it bigger. The group will also be making holiday food baskets for the needy, holding programs at schools, providing hygiene products for students during flu season, such as hand sanitizers and facial tissues, mentoring students and have a shoe drive prior to the start of school.

The JA, she said, is a 501 (c) 3 organization and all donations are tax deductible. As the JA is just getting started, Gummeson said, it will need to raise money for its projects.
