Malvern man killed in icy road accident

fatal traffic deathIcy roads played a part in an accident in Hot Spring County Saturday morning that claimed the life of a Malvern man.

Thomas Hanley, 66, of 824 Fairview in Malvern, was killed when his 2009 Chevy Impala hit a patch of ice on Highway 270 West at Bailey Hill. Hanley’s car was struck by a 2001 GMC Yukon driven by Charles Grayer, 36, of Hot Springs. Grayer’s SUV crossed the center line before striking Hanley’s car.

Grayer was injured in the accident and taken to Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs.

Hanley was pronounced dead at the scene by Hot Spring County Coroner Ernie Cox. His body was taken to Regency Funeral Home.

The accident, which occurred around 8 a.m., was investigated by Cpl. Zach Owens of the Arkansas State Police.

Both drivers were reported to be wearing their seat belts.
