PRESCOTT – This year’s Nevada County Fair will feature something not seen for a long time – a carnival.

According to Tara Carlton, secretary of the Nevada County Fair Association (NCFA), there will be eight attractions, mainly for younger children, but what’s being brought isn’t known at this time. NCFA President Neal Ridling has been trying to contact the company to get the details so the carnival can be advertised properly. Regardless, there will be rides at the 2021 carnival. The carnival was supposed to be at last year’s fair, but COVID prevented there from being much of anything in 2020.

The carnival will only be in town the last Friday and Saturday of the fair, or Sept. 17-18.

There are other changes people should know about as well. The livestock show will be held Tuesday night, while the premium sale dinner will be inside the Potlatch Building that Thursday. The top five chicken and rabbit will be included in the premium sale for the first time this year, too. Another new event will be a rodeo queen pageant Saturday night.

While wearing masks aren’t mandatory, social distancing is encouraged and there will be hand sanitizing stations throughout the fairgrounds, Carlton said.

As to the schedule of events, from 8-10 a.m. on Sept. 9, items can be entered in the school arts, crafts and photography divisions. School items can only be entered at this time and won’t be accepted afterwards.

On Sept. 10, from 3-6 p.m., hopefuls can enter field crops, fall garden, farm products, food preservation, art, household articles, quilts and coverlets, clothing, furniture, photography, crafts, and educational and commercial booths can be put up. These same items can be entered from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sept. 11, and from 2-5 p.m. on Sept. 12.

Monday, Sept. 13, from 7:30-10 a.m., baked goods and flowers can be entered. The flower show will be judged at 11 a.m. From noon until 8 p.m., livestock can be entered and weighed, this is for cattle, swine, sheep and goats. From 3-6 p.m. is blood testing for chickens at the Nevada County Extension Office, while check-in for chickens and rabbits will be from 4-7 p.m. The parade will kick off at 6 p.m. and exhibit halls will be open at this time.

This year’s parade will start at Central Baptist Church on East Second South, and go to the Prescott City Park.

Exhibit halls will be open from 5-9 p.m. on Sept. 14, with the livestock show at 6 o’clock.

Sept. 15 will have the exhibit halls open fro 5-9 p.m. with judging for chickens and rabbits, along with the chicken and rabbit shows.

The premium sale buyers dinner and sale will be on Sept. 16, with the meal at 5:30 p.m. and the sale at 6:30. Livestock will be released at 8 p.m. with clean up to be done. The exhibit halls will be open from 5-9.

Friday, Sept. 17, the exhibit halls will be open from 5-8 p.m. with the carnival opening, though no time has been set yet.

For all intents and purposes, the fair will end Saturday, Sept. 18, with the exhibit halls open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., the carnival being open, and pageants being held. The infant, baty, tiny and little miss pageants will be held at 10:30 a.m., with the junior and miss interviews at 2:30 p.m., talent show and fair queen pageant at 5 p.m., along with the petite miss, young miss, debutante miss, junior miss pageants.

The rodeo will begin at 7 p.m. and include the rodeo queen pageant.

All items are to be picked up between 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19.
