Power remains out in Emmet

By Kevin McKinnon, 12/20/12 10:08 PM

2-powerlinerepairsEmmet residents are still waiting for the power to be restored following Wednesday night’s thunderstorm.

The power went off around midnight Wednesday and according to Emmet Mayor Dale Booker, may be restored Friday afternoon. Booker says that’s one of two times he’s been given by Entergy, the community’s power provider. The other time is Saturday afternoon.

Booker says the delay in restoring power is a result of several scattered outages in the area that can’t be repaired until the wind dies down so the electric crews can use their bucket trucks.

Hopefully the power can be restored on Friday when wind speeds are forecast to drop to around five miles per hour.

Booker says the city has been checking on elderly people without power to make sure they’re staying warm and safe. He says the city has generators that are being used to go house-to-house to re-freeze food in freezers and refrigerators.

Anyone in the city needing help is urged to contact him at 870-887-3538 or 501-944-3853.

KHPA radio has remained off the air since the storms Wednesday night. Their tower is located on Highway 67 in Emmet.
