PPD probes weapon at PHS

PRESCOTT – A weapon was reportedly brought onto the campus of Prescott High School and discharged in a boy’s restroom.

According to a release from the Prescott Police Department (PPD), officers went to PHS in reference to students having firearms and the possibility of shots being fired inside the high school building. Reports were, after a gunshot was heard coming from a boy’s restroom, two boys, ages 16 and 17, were seen leaving the restroom and school.

The two were found outside a nearby apartment complex with two small caliber handguns recovered. Both were taken into custody without incident, according to the release.

Investigation into the situation showed the two had the weapons on school property, a felony, and there had been an accidental discharge while they were showing the guns off. The spent shell was recovered at the scene.

Both were charged with possessing a weapon on school property and aggravated assault along with breaking and entering and theft of property in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins. According to the release, the weapons were reportedly stolen from a vehicle.

The release states it is not believed the two had additional intent to use the weapons at school.
