A Prescott man was recently arrested and charged with stealing the safe from inside a Prescott business. Timothy Hank Jackson, 35, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 15 in connection with a break-in at the Tobacco Superstore at 104 East Main. That break-in was reported on Monday, Feb. 13.
Prescott Police were called to the business that morning when the store manager arrived at work and discovered that someone had gained entry to the business by force and had removed the safe and an undisclosed amount of money.
Police say Jackson was a person of interest early in the investigation and was interviewed and released. Later, when it was determined that he was a suspect in the crime, Jackson had reportedly fled the area in an attempt to elude capture.
Jackson was discovered to be the passenger in a vehicle in the Boughton Community on Feb. 15. When Nevada County Sheriff's deputies attempted a traffic stop, they say Jackson fled on foot into the woods. He was captured without incident following an hour-long search by Hope Police Officer Johnny Weaver and his K-9 partner, Rex.
The Prescott Police Department wants to thank Officer Weaver and Rex, as well as members of the Nevada County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in the arrest.
Prescott Police report that the safe and the majority of the money taken during the burglary have been recovered at this point. And while Jackson is the only person connected to the burglary at this point, they say the investigation into the incident is still underway. |
