A Prescott couple may owe their safety today to the night patrol efforts of the Prescott Police Department last night.
Corporal Obie Laurant spotted a fire on the front porch at 518 West 3rd Street South around 1:58 a.m. Cpl. Laurant called for the fire department as he and Officer Aaron Quick woke the occupants of the home, Eugene Cooper and Danielle Cottingham, and got them out safely.
The Prescott Fire Department extinguished the fire but the home suffered substantial damage.
A grill to cook food on the front porch is thought to be the source of the fire.
The rent house belongs to Jean Jones of Prescott.
WOW! Those folks are very fortunate! From the looks of that there was more than just a "small fire"! Way to go officers!
