Rev. Aaron McFadden, the eldest of five, was born to Jesse and Vora Lee (Roach) McFadden on November 16, 1932 in Hope, Arkansas. He departed this life on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the age of 80.
He was a graduate of the Yerger High School class of 1952 where he was a star football player and won many awards for his accomplishments. Rev. McFadden received a football scholarship to Topeka Technical Institute in Topeka, Kansas. While in Topeka he was drafted to serve in the United States Army. After receiving an honorable discharge he relocated to Flint, Michigan. In 1956 he was hired by General Motors and joined the Dozier Memorial C.M.E. Church.
While at Dozier Memorial Rev. McFadden was called into the ministry and continued his education at Mid-West Bible College in Pontiac, Michigan, Sunshine Bible Institute in Flint, Michigan and later graduated from Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Ministry of Rev. McFadden consisted of serving as pastor to the following congregations: St. Peter CME, Flint, Michigan; Mask Memorial CME, Lansing, Michigan; St. Peter CME, Flint, Michigan and St. Luke CME, Saginaw, Michigan. Additionally, he served as Presiding Elder of the Mid-Michigan District. Rev. McFadden officially retired from the CME Church July 14, 2006.
Rev. McFadden continued his faithful service after retiring from General Motors in 1986 by serving as a Board Member and Chaplain of the NAACP; Houghton-Jones Task Force, Saginaw, MI; the North-East Ministerial Alliance of Saginaw, MI; Saginaw Pastors Coalition; Board Member of Urban Affairs Program at Michigan State University; Ezekiel Project, a Community Clergy Organization; Boy Scout Leader; Mid-Michigan District Ministerial Alliance; former President of the Detroit Joint Board of Finance, Michigan-Indiana region; former member of the General Correction Board of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and General Conference Delegate for many years.
The legacy of Rev. McFadden will be forever cherished by his loving and devoted wife of 32 years, Debra McFadden; children, Mike McFadden of Grand Rapids, MI, Steve McFadden and Jennifer McFadden of Saginaw Township, Wendy (Robert) Moore, Veronica (Larry) Simmons, Wyvonne McFadden all of Flint, MI, Thaddeus and Aaron McFadden both of Madison, WI; eleven grandchildren; three Brothers; J. Monroe (Gloria) McFadden of Hope, AR, Dr. Gene (Dale) McFadden of Carmel, IN, and Jimmy McFadden of Murfreesboro, TN; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Wilfred McFadden, and one brother, Sylvester McFadden.
Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at St. Luke C.M.E. Church, 1121 Tuscola Street, with the funeral commencing at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Lovedale Memorial Cemetery in Flint, MI. Arrangements are entrusted to Evans & Browne’s Funeral Home, 441 N. Jefferson Ave in Saginaw.
