Six families in Hope and Hempstead County got a visit from the Santa Cop program Christmas Eve night.
This is the tenth year for the program in Hope and Police Chief J.R. Wilson says a total of $1,770 was used to purchase gifts for 13 children ranging in age from two months to 16 years.
Chief Wilson says applications for the Santa Cop program are filled out by his officers based on their recognition of families in need. Then the department solicits donations from the community and purchases the gifts, which are delivered each year on the night before Christmas.
Hope police officers delivered the gifts along with the chief’s family, support staff members and Deputy Freddie Parks.
Chief Wilson appreciates the community’s support for the Santa Cop program. He says he also appreciates the dedicated work of his officers and staff throughout the year. He wishes everyone a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.
