A Saratoga woman was injured just before midnight Wednesday in a collision with a large truck at the intersection of Highway 278 North and Highway 73 West just north of Hope.
Ciara Trotter was injured when she apparently swung her silver Pontiac Grand Am too wide as she turned south onto Highway 278 off of Highway 73 and into the path of an oncoming Kenworth belonging to The Martin-Brower Company out of Rosemont, IL.
The truck’s driver, David Falcon of Baton Rouge, LA, said he was bobtailing north on 278 on his way to Tyson to pick up a trailer when the Pontiac pulled out into the highway and crossed into his lane.
The collision caused significant damage to Trotter’s car and ruptured the fuel tank on Falcon’s Kenworth, spilling about 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the road and into the ditch. A hazmat crew was called to clean up the fuel spill.
Trotter was transported to WadleyRegionalMedicalCenter in Hope by Pafford EMS. Falcon was not injured.
The crash was investigated by Arkansas State Trooper Travis Hale with the assistance of deputies from the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office.
