Spot Daniel Art Show Coming To Southwest Arkansas ArtStation

HOPE – A retrospective art show showcasing Prescott artist Spot Daniel will be featured from January 31st through February 24th at the ArtStation in Hope, from 10:00am to 1:00 pm, Tuesdays through Thursdays.

Prescott native Spot Daniel paints because it makes him happy. Influenced by the African-American artist  Mose Tolliver, known for his primitive style, Daniel has been quoted as saying he was influenced by the “crazy stuff ” of Tolliver’s works.

Be they razorbacks, roosters, people, fish, peacocks, grasshoppers, golfers. cats, trains, old cars or old bicycles (or anything else that sparks his imagination), Spot Daniel’s paintings are as diverse and unconventional as the everyday materials upon which he paints. He uses oils, acrylics, Masonite, canvas, trash cans, cardboard, golf carts, roofs, and more (anything he wants, actually) to create his pieces. His art, like his signature (a capital “D” with a “spot” in the center), is his own unique and distinct expression and is always filled with happiness and humor. He said if his paintings can make one person smile, then he has done just what he set out to do.

Now in his 90s, Spot Daniel no longer paints. But the art world can be perpetually grateful that he once did. Daniel’s art may be considered atypical for a gallery or museum exhibit, but its overall creativity is as invigorating as a breath of fresh air. One of the beauties of his art pieces is that they are not overworked. When he saw something that inspired him, he picked up a paint brush, got out some paints (he says he has no idea how to mix colors), painted it, and moved on.
