A Pike County teacher has been charged with having sex with one of her students in Hempstead County.

Hempstead County Sheriff's Department investigators arrested Monica Lee Teel, 27, of Murfreesboro Thursday and charged her with Sexual Assault in the First Degree. Teel, a Murfreesboro High School Civics teacher turned herself into the sheriff's office around 9 a.m.

The Crimes Against Children Division of the Arkansas State Police notified sheriff's investigators of an incident that had been reported where a teacher and one of her students were meeting at a cabin in northern Hempstead County to have sex. The following investigation by the Hempstead County Sheriff Department resulted in Ms. Teel turning herself in.

She was booked into the Hempstead County Detention Center and was awaiting a first court appearance.
