HOPE – A 13-year-old Hope girl has been charged with third degree domestic battery.

According to a release from the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday, deputies were sent to a residence on Hwy. 67 in connection with a physical altercation.

While on the way, the deputy was told one of those involved had a knife. When Deputy Matthew Dunham arrived, he met with a 32-year-old woman and the teen, who were arguing and the teen allegedly wouldn’t calm down and was placed in the patrol car while Dunham questioned the woman.

The woman reportedly told Dunham the teen started a fight with her that morning, and was complaining about putting on a pair of socks. The woman reportedly went to the girl’s room and told her to put the socks on.

According to the report, the teen kicked a bowl of cereal out of the woman’s hand, then threw a lamp and flower vase at her. The woman reportedly told Dunham she had to pin the girl on the ground to try and get her to calm down. However, the girl reportedly scratched the woman on the leg and bit her arm.

The woman reportedly said she let the girl up and the girl ran and grabbed a knife from the kitchen and tried to go outside with it. The woman told Dunham she had to forcibly take the knife from the girl because she was afraid the girl would harm herself.

The teen was taken into custody and charged with domestic battery third degree. She was taken to the White River Juvenile Detention Center in Batesville.
