An Illinois family’s Christmas took a tragic detour when their vehicle crashed into the woods off Interstate 30 Sunday afternoon.

The family of two adults and three children was travelling west near the 21-mile-marker at about 3:15 p.m. in a Dodge 1/2-ton 4×4 when, according to a witness, their vehicle went out of control while making a lane change. The truck left the north side of the highway, striking a tree and a fence before coming to rest on its side.

At least one of the family members was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Two ambulances from Pafford EMS responded to the accident treating the victims on the scene and transporting three of them to Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana.

The accident was investigated by Troopers David Hamilton and Glendon Flowers of the Arkansas State Police.
