Freddie Hamilton was presented the Treasure of Gold Award by Chamber President Lauren Brown during the Thursday night Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Banquet. The following was read by Brown in making the presentation:
The 2013 Treasure of Gold recipient moved from Boughton to Prescott at an early age. She attended school in Prescott and graduated from McRae High School. After graduation from McRae High School she attended Philander College in Little Rock. After graduation from Philander College, this Treasure of Gold recipient pursued a career in teaching. Her teaching career began at Unity School, which later became the Foreman School District. At Foreman she taught science, was a school counselor and cheerleading coach. She retired from Foreman School District in 1992. After retiring from the Foreman School District she became involved in the Prescott School District by substitute teaching and filling the position of school counselor from 2005 to 2006.
In the 1980′s she joined the Foreman Kiwanis Club. This Treasure of Gold recipient has been a member of the Prescott Kiwanis Club since returning to Prescott in 1992 and currently holds the office of secretary.
She is a member of Cothran Chapel Church where she is very active. She is the church pianist and holds other offices at the church.
She is a regular volunteer at Food Share Arkansas, which is a local food bank.
Although she has no children of her own, there are many that call her Momma. She has nieces, nephews and god children that she loves dearly and is always willing give a hand should one of them need her. She is dearly loved by her family, friends, church family and community.
