Patricia Merck, 61, of Oden, Arkansas, was killed Friday evening when the 1999 Chevy Blazer she was driving went off Highway 88 after negotiating a curve and overturned after coming back onto the roadway. The wreck occurred around 7:50 p.m. about 5.2 miles east of Mena. Â Merck was wearing her seat belt.
Alfred F. Cook, 79, of Cove, Arkansas, died Saturday evening when his 2009 Chevy Colorado drove off Highway 375 traveling up an embankment and overturning. That accident occurred around 7 p.m. approximately 4 miles south of Mena. Cook was pronounced dead upon arrival at the helipad. Cook was not wearing his seat belt.
In both wrecks, the victim’s car came to rest upside down. The roadway was dry at the scene of both accidents, which were both investigated by Senior Cpl. Tommy Stueart of the Arkansas State Police.
